Bank Workers Charity was founded in 1883 by bank clerks who wanted to provide support for colleagues and their families, we continue that mission today. Last year we supported nearly 6,000 past and present bank workers and their dependants with personalised, one-to-one support - including nearly 900 from HSBC.

If you ever find yourself in a difficult situation and don’t know where to turn, here’s a few ways Bank Workers Charity can help:

1. Here if your health takes an unexpected turn

Illness or disability can happen without warning. Bank Workers Charity can help with home adaptations and equipment, guidance on benefits, caring responsibilities and local support services. And if your situation means you’d benefits from support in person, a Bank Workers Charity If you need tailored, face-to-face help, a dedicated caseworker can visit you at home to offer practical support.

2. Confidential financial help when money feels tight

Money worries can affect anyone, especially after illness, bereavement or a sudden drop in income. Bank Workers Charity can help with benefits advice, budgeting, exploring grants from other charities and guidance on talking to lenders. We may also be able to provide a means-tested grant from the HSBC Support Fund.

3. Support for your relationships

Relationships with family are often a source of strength, but they can feel harder during big life changes like changing jobs or retiring. Bank Workers Charity can provide counselling for you, your partner or dependants, as well as legal advice around Wills or setting up a Power of Attorney.

The HSBC Support Fund is available to current and former HSBC employees and pensioners, as well as their partners and dependents who have experienced events outside of their control.

Yes, the Bank Workers Charity look at each case individually using the Household Below Average Income (HBAI) standard after tax and costs. Financial support is typically only available to those on low incomes with limited savings.

The Bank Workers Charity provide financial support for unforeseen events that have caused income-loss or increased expenses. 

Since everyone’s needs are unique, there isn’t a specific checklist under which you can apply. Some of the expenses they can consider include essential furniture and appliances, short term general living expenses and aids and adaptations.
