Why be a trustee?
I enjoyed over 36 years working for Midland Bank and HSBC, with my last role based in London as UK Head of the Branch Network and Wealth Management business. I took early retirement at the end of 2014 ,a great opportunity to spend more time with my family and find my "purpose" for the next 30 years .My sister celebrated her 40 years at HSBC in September, and my husband has worked for over 32 years, so HSBC is definitely a "family" business. Having been Deputy Chairman of the Pensioners Association for 21/2 years and leading the Branch Network with over 14k staff who were members of either our DB or DC pension scheme, I am fully aware of how important our pension scheme is to our existing pensioners and future deferred and active members. Having seen first-hand via the Association and Bank Workers Charity how important pensions and retirement savings are to both the sector and individuals; this gave me the passion and impetus to immerse myself in enhancing my pensions knowledge, and then taking the opportunity to put myself forward to be a trustee.
My priorities
I am focusing myself on the key priorities of the Board; one of which is the impact of Banking Reform on the Pension scheme. I can assure you that there is a tremendous amount of work being undertaken by both the trustees and the Bank on this matter ahead of the 1st July 2018 deadline. In addition, I am very passionate about member engagement and delighted that I have been selected to be part of the Communications and Engagement Committee.
I look forward to working alongside my fellow trustees throughout 2018, and doing my upmost to represent all of the membership of our DC and DB schemes
